Chrome issue showing WordPress admin menu

Just a quick post to help spread the word about a little issue with Chrome recently & the (temporary ’til Chrome is updated) fix to resolve it. I’ve noticed on a few sites in the last few days this bug which results in parts of the WordPress admin menu occasionally displaying blank and as a messy jumble of links. This it seems is due to a (currently default) setting in Chrome. A fix is expected to be included in the nest Chrome update but until then do the following to sort it out:

  1. Type the following in the address bar of a new tab: “chrome://flags”
  2. Scroll down until you see “Disable slimming paint. Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, Android”. Click “Enable”. Note: this does NOT enable slimming paint, it DISABLES it.
  3. Click the RELAUNCH NOW button.

Thanks to WPTavern and the Chromium issues forum for showing the way here.
